QEC is established under the umbrella of Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of higher education commission to enhance, maintain and monitor quality of higher education. In Brains Institute, Peshawar the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) has been established in 2018.

Developing a viable and sustainable mechanism of  Quality Assurance in Brains Institute, Peshawar to meet the rising challenges of transforming the country into knowledge economy.

The Mission of Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) is to ensure and enhances the quality of Higher Education.

Quality Promotion: The development of a program of activities to institutionalize a quality culture in higher education and a commitment to continuous quality development.

Capacity Development: The development and implementation of initiatives to build and strengthen the capacity for higher quality provision at institutional, learning program and individual-levels.

Faculty Assessment: Measurement of the expected outcome/performance from individual faculty member through standard internationally evaluated and tested procedure after having provided the requisite teaching and research infrastructure and facilities.

Developmental Review: Measurement of the performance of each academic department through conducting annual review based on the standard parameters set for this purpose.

Accreditation: Regular assessment and review of the Brains Institute in order to assure the quality of teaching staff and the teaching and training provision provided to the students.

QEC Self-Assessment Report Self-Assessment is an evaluative exercise conducted by the Institution to assess whether academic programs meet their educational objectives and outcomes. The aim is to improve the quality of these programs, enhance student learning and establish acceptable norms of reliability and validity in the university’s certified output. The Self-Assessment of academic programs is conducted by Program Team (PT) constituted by the concerned Dean/HOD of faculty.

The Assessment Team (AT) is constituted by the Pro Rector/ Vice chancellor of the university. Dean/HOD nominate senior faculty members in departments working under them as coordinators to supervise the effective and timely completion of self-Assessment Report and other documents within given time frame.

Dean/HOD with consultation nominates faculty members of the program Team (PT). Each PT is responsible for the timely completion and submission of the Self-Assessment Report and other documents of one academic program.

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) arranges orientation and training sessions for the program Teams for effective handling of Quality Assurance (QA) procedures.

Program Teams liaise with the QEC through its coordinator. Soft and hard copies of self-Assessment Report and other documents of academic programs are submitted by the coordinator to the QEC with the approval of Dean/HOD according to the time line suggested by QEC.

  1. The Quality Enhancement Cell QEC is to be headed by a Director reporting directly to Vice Chancellor/ Rector. He is to be the correspondent with the outside bodies.

  1. QEC is responsible for promoting public confidence that the quality and standards of the award of degrees are enhanced and safeguarded.

  1. QEC is responsible for the review of quality standards and the quality of teaching and learning in each subject area.

  1. QEC is responsible for the review of academic affiliations with other institutions in terms of effective management of standards and quality of programs.

  1. QEC is responsible for defining clear and explicit standards as point of reference to the reviews to be carried out. It should also help the employees to know as to what they could expect from candidates.

  1. QEC is responsible to develop qualifications framework by setting out the attributes and abilities that can be expected from the holder of a qualification, i.e. Bachelor with Honors, Master’s, M. Phil, Doctoral.

  1. QEC is responsible to develop program specifications. There are standards set of information clarifying what knowledge, understanding, skills and other attributes a student will have developed on successfully completing a specific program.

  1. QEC is responsible to develop quality assurance processes and methods of evaluation to affirm that the quality of provision and the standards of awards are being maintained and to foster curriculum, subject and staff development, together with research and other scholarly activities.

  1. QEC is responsible to ensure that the University’s quality assurance procedures are designed to fit in with the arrangements in place nationally for maintaining and improving the quality of  Higher Education.

  1. QEC is responsible to develop procedures for the following:

  • Approval of new programs
  • Annual monitoring and evaluation including program monitoring, faculty
monitoring and student’s perception.
  • Departmental review
  • Student feedback
  • Employer feedback
  • Quality assurance of Master’s, M. Phil and Ph.D. degree programs
  • Subject review
  • Institutional assessment

Program Team PT

PT is a group of 2-3 professionals being nominated by the head of the department in consultation with the chairman. It is to be headed by a coordinator. It is the backbone of entire Self-Assessment activity and is responsible for preparation of Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and acts as a contact/focal group during the period of assessment process.

Responsibilities of PT

Compiling the report by responding to each criteria/standards given in the Self-Assessment manual and integrating the collected information/feedback collecting relevant data on Faculty, Students, Libraries, Laboratories, and Infrastructure. Getting SA performae filled by faculty, alumni and employers. Writing summaries or feedback received through performae. Analyzing the feedback and drawing conclusions. Writing a foreword giving brief history of the program particulars of the PT, date of starting/finalizing report writing. The Report is to be signed by the coordinator of the Program Team.

Assessment Team (AT) It is a group of professionals who will review the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) prepared by Program Team (PT) visits the department and submits its finding in the form of a report (AT Report). The Assessment Team (AT) comprises of 2-3 professionals taken from within or outside the university and it must have at least one expert in the area of the assessed program. Responsibilities of Assessment Team (AT Check completeness of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) as per Self-Assessment manual. Look at the comprehensiveness relevance of responses to various criteria and standards verify and authenticate the data/information given in SAR confirm/affirm the summaries of the feedbacks/ surveys made by the PT Review the conclusions drawn by the PT from the feedback/surveys carry out rubric evaluation of SAR list down the findings from the assessment exercise. Write down the AT report on the prescribed format for further submission to QEC.
